Flee eBook Caroline Gebbie Reviews
As a photographer, I have a wide imagination so this book scared the pants off me! Flee takes you into a dark world of almost Satanic proportions and all the time you're reading you want to just close the cover - but you can't put it down for fear you'll miss an important element in this intriguing story.
All I can say is; Hannibal watch out!
Suspense, supernatural stuff, spells, and spookiness... those are the keywords of this fabulous read. The cast of supernatural beings is filled with variety, and the humans cast is just as good. And the suspense? Well, if you think you have read suspense, try this book. I literally could not believe how much torture one of the characters could bear, and I could barely bear to find out what would happen to her. Edge of your seat good read. Hooray for horror!
I am not a horror fan, especially when it involves the occult, but this book was recommended by a friend, so I thought I would give it a try. I admit I was hooked almost from the first page. Don't start this book unless you have time to finish it. You won't be able to put it down. It's graphic and scary and very well written. It has everything a good novel should have. And it grabs you and doesn't let up until you're done. A really good read and I look forward to reading more from this author.
Was a good book. A lot of action. A good plot and lots of details. But the ending I thought sucked. Could have been better.
Enjoy horror and occult. This is 2 for one. Keeps you wondering. The last page is the kicker. Hoping to read more from this author.
I was particularly attracted by the cover to this book, then totally hooked with the opening sentence. As a writer, I admire another who does their job by capturing a reader, leading them down a path from which they can't escape, then bringing them to a totally believable and convincing conclusion. This is a great read that will rattle your backbone, dry your mouth, and make you want to scream...but you're breathless and can't. Don't miss this one if you're an addict of terror.
[Minor Spoilers]
It is almost Jenny’s 30th birthday and her magic potential will be at a peak. It is time for her to decide if she wants to join the family magic business. She will discuss this with them when she sees them but her parents are killed right before Jenny arrives.
Jenny is not sure who killed her parents so she decides to trust Robert, her parents’ business manager, rather than Simon, the guy her mom told her to seek out in a note written in her own blood as she lay dying.
Obviously, this choice turns out to be a big mistake. I had trouble accepting Jenny’s stupidity, (or to be generous, her naiveté) despite multiple signs something is wrong. For example, Robert said he called the police, but Jenny isn’t suspicious when the police don’t show up to question her about the murders. Instead, she accepts Robert’s explanation that the police were busy and will perhaps show up “tomorrow.” I don’t think anyone could truly believe that the cops work that way. Clearly the police (as well as the media) would be all over this story. Jenny was written lazily and I felt absolutely no connection with her as a character.
Robert has nefarious plans for Jenny, who may actually be his daughter. (He raped her mom). He plans to sacrifice her to the Goddess Aldona on her 30th birthday. In return for this he will be granted immortality. Robert provided Aldona with a few more sacrifices during the story, but Aldona just didn’t seem malevolent - Robert seemed much worse than she.
Remember how I said earlier that her dad was killed. Surprise! It turns out he’s immortal and is alive after all. Robert would know about this
immortality, since he plans to use the same method (sacrificing his child) to gain his own immortality. So why bother going through the motions of "killing" him? It would have made a lot more sense for him to just kidnap Jenny and keep her drugged until he gave her to Aldona. Robert is not great at murder. He was also sure he killed Jenny’s dog, but it turns out that she was alive as well.
The writing itself isn’t bad, but the book suffers from a disgraceful amount of typos.
I can only recommend this book to people who are very willing to overlook plot holes and completely suspend their disbelief.
Page turning and emotionally connected to the characters. Really wonderful read and would definitely recommend if you enjoy thrillers or horror.
